More on Endowed Objects

I’m about to start a new project – or rather I’m returning to a project I started last summer. At least two endowed objects (a bracelet and a clay flask) will be important in this story. Here are the questions I’ve been asking myself about the endowed objects.
  1. Is there an endowed object in the novel?
  2. What is it?
  3. Who possesses it?
  4. What significance does this person place on the object?
  5. Do any other characters know about the object?
  6. Does the object hold any significance for them?
  7. How does ownership (or lack of ownership) affect the characters?
  8. Which scenes revolve around the object?
  9. Could the story be told without this object?
  10. Would a different object work better?

I've been thinking about symbolic objects in the story I'm working on. I should use your list!

Ah yes I've seen someone post about these a while ago. I must have a think about them myself.

Great questions. I am starting to ask myself similar questions as I try to create a magical object for my story.

I'm glad my post was helpful. My writing group used to meet for writing exercises, and we often started with questions like these to generate ideas.
