miniature garland: snowflakes caught on a spider web.

When I took this picture, I didn’t think it would work. The web was whipping in the wind, so focusing was problematic. Specialized equipment (including a microscope objective) is required to take great photographs of snowflakes. Last week The Guardian ran a short article on snowflake facts.

Another wonderful shot -- I prefer the horizontal crop.
I'm big on checking out the things caught on the stray strands of silk that spiders bequeath us. Of course, the dewdrop-bejewelled spider web is one of the most hackneyed images in photography. But snowflake-bedecked silk -- you're on to something there! Do you think you could get more? It would be a challenge for sure, since the webslingers have mostly packed it in ...

There may still be a couple webs in the lee of the deck. I'll have to check. This may be one of those first-snow-of-the-year photo ops.
