Snowflakes and Fern Frost

This was my first attempt to photograph snowflakes, and I wasn't completely satisfied with the result. The Michigan winter will provide opportunities to try again. Click here to see the difference between fern frost, rime and hoarfrost.

Have you read Snowflake Bentley? Fascinating.

Jacqui:
I read it a long time ago. I should pick it up from the library. Didn't Bentley use a microscope?

Oh, get out! Are those real snowflakes? Good work. Yeah, as I recall Bentley did use a microscope. But I like that yours is an attempt to show them in situ. Perhaps a tripod or mini-tripod would help. Or are you at the limits of your macro function?

Tim:
My camera tends to focus on dark things, so photographing snowflakes and water droplets can be a problem.
