Wind-chill -18 Degrees Fahrenheit

It's cold outside, but my daffodils caught the morning light.

You have daffodils?! They're my favorite.

These are forced bulbs, growing inside.

Nice taste of spring, Ann. I meant to have some forced daffodils or paperwhites this winter, but by the time I got around to it, the couple places I looked didn't have them. I used to do that every year, but have gotten out of the habit, dang it. Remember when we had "garden stores?" What was the name of that one on Cedar Street that closed ever so long ago?

Richter's! I knew it began with R, but it only came to me when I *stopped* thinking about it.

Tim: I got these at Tom's, a little independent grocery out here in the burbs. The ones I saw at Meijer were awful. The people who planted them put all the bulbs on one side of the pot or only half-buried the bulbs. They always fill the dirt to overflowing so it's difficult to water the plants.

P.S. I don't have daffies, but I do have a pot of white alyssum that is reblooming now. It's the second winter inside for the alyssum; it goes on the patio in the summer. Tough plant. Its honey fragrance is so welcome any time, and makes alyssum one of my four favorite fragrant flowers.

Tim: Last fall, I reclaimed some of our lawn for a new flowerbed. I'll have to put in some alyssum next spring. And I'll bring a bit inside. Thanks for the tip.
